Our Mission

Who We Are

We are people of color aspiring to build a supportive and inclusive community to encourage Montanans of all sizes, shapes, and colors to get out and enjoy all that Montana has to offer.   Our membership includes people of diverse backgrounds, languages, cultures, abilities, and religions who share an enthusiasm for getting outside.

What We Do

We get out to enjoy and explore through a wide variety of activities from nature walks and sunny picnics, to climbing and mountaineering. Earthtone Outside MT provides a platform for people of color to find friends and mentors to help them explore new activities or refine their existing skill set. We understand that learning to climb, ski, hike or even swim for the first time can be intimidating. We are here to help, and can’t wait to spend time outside with you!

What We Value

We more than “respect” and “tolerate” “diversity” because we live it everyday. Living, playing, and working in a racially homogenous place means we stand out and are often feel unwelcome. We invite all people of marginalized cultural backgrounds and strive to provide a barrier-free and adventurous outdoor experience.

We strive to create an inclusive atmosphere where all people of color are respected for their thoughts and experiences. We facilitate an inclusive social atmosphere to engage in dialogue on what it means to be a person of color in Montana and the outdoors.  Whether someone is just starting out skiing, or crushing the Ridge, we want to have fun and share the joy of being outside.
